In addition to the purely fictionalized fleshy neck frill, poison glands,
and the abilitiy to spit, Michael Crichton gave Dilophosaurus (or was it
Procompsognathus?) a forked tongue, which supposadly had scent receptors
on it.  As far as I am aware, the only animals with forked tongues are
varanoid lizards and their close relatives.  Dinosaurs are archosaurs, as
are crocs. and birds; so a best guess is that dinosaurs had solid, slender
tongues like birds.
