Ben-cao Gang-mu also discussed the supposed origin of dragon bones. Some
scholars though them as the dragon sheddings. Some scholars though them as
the remains of dead dragons, and used them as the evidence against the
immortality of dragons. Some scholars questioned why only the dead remains
were discovered, but not the living dragons. Li Shi-zhen himself believed
dragons to be mortal, and dragon bones were the remains.
