moon absenteeism

Evidence from corals and bivalves and other animals that deposit
calcite or aragonite shells/tests/frameworks on a daily basis is that
the earth has been present since at least 525 Ma. all these organisms
show that they deposited their hard shells in a cycle that has
a periodicity ranging from 28-29 days in the Quaternary to
45 (i think i have this number right but i am doing this from
memory since i am on vacation and away from my course notes)
days in the Cambrian. all this suggests that the Moon was present
because the cycles are caused by diurnal tidal changes that need the Moon
nearby. wht this does suggest is that the Moon is slowly getting further
away as it's presence slows the earth's rotation.
