K/T survivors

I have noted that most of the surviving large animals seem to be animals
that were capable of hibernating or going for long periods of time in a
semi-hibernation state. Crocs for example can go for several months
reputedly without eating. Many reptiles hibernate. Being dormant
or buried in mud for the duration of the impact and its immediate
after effects would be a definite advantage. That of course,
does not explain the bird survival!
