The verdict is in!

The verdict is in regarding the case against the Black Hills Institute and
its owners. The jury convicted members of the institute on only eight of the
149 felony counts.

The eight felonies were related to technical violations, and none were for
theft of fossils from goverment land. Defence attorney Patrick Duffy expects
to appeal the convictions. Pete Larson and Bob Farrar are expected to
recieve probation and minimal fines.

Other defendents, Neal Larson and Terry Wentz were not convicted of any of
the charges.

It is estimated that the goverment spent over three million bringing this
case to court. With all of the forthcoming budgett cuts, that kind of money
could have supplied a few museums and universities with some nice grant
money.
