pilot whales, gender names, elephants & trees...
Sorry to drag on the gender name stuff, but is the fact that the name of the
Short finned pilot whale was recently changed from Globicephala meleana to
Globicephala melas at all relevant?
Elephants will push over trees if the only foliage left is out of their reach.
In fact, they're responsible for keeping some areas of savannah fairly open
because of this activity. Big sauropods, weights upwards of 50 tonnes, surely
could have done much worse damage.
Can a ref. be given for Tom Holtz' recent stuff on claw curvature in theropds
please? ('grapple and slash', 'pursuit and bite' and all that). Many thanks.
