large birds

Another excellent source of information on a group of very large birds is
"Prodigioud Birds" by A. Anderson (Cambridge U.P., 1989). In addition to
a fine discussion of the systematics of the moas, there is more here on
morphology,
phylogeny, and behavior than can be found anywhere. In addition, there is
considerable material on the interactions of the birds and the first humans
to reach "Na Zillun".
BTW in regard to the power in the kick of Cassowaries, a story circulated
in New Guinea in the late 1960s that one attacked a VW beetle and ripped open
the front end in a single kick.
