The term parvorder is used as a subdivision, in this case units within
orders. The prefiis also applied to class (parvclass).
For example the Parvclass Galloanserae includes 3 very large orders.
The orders in turn are divided in one case into infraorders, in another into
parvorders. Sibley and co-workers don't give a particurarly visible
justification, but use *may* be related to age of the taxon. An equallylikely
justification is that (for example) the parvorders with an order are one
anothers closest relatives. That is, shared the most recent ancestor or
to imply a recently structured taxon.
