With a mouth that could open extremely wide and even extend itself to   
open the jaws 'specially wide- T rex was certainly built for putting big   
things in it's mouth.
Why couldn't it just work like modern crocs and merely strangle the   
animal to death?  Why bother to disembowl it's prey?
