field paleo courses
I took these field and lab courses last year. If anyone would like to know
about my experience, please e-mail me off list.
DIG UP DINOSAURS (AND THEIR FRIENDS) THIS SUMMER!
Mesa Technical College is offering two ways for you to get involved
with dinosaurs in eastern New Mexico:
1. One week of fieldtrips to local fossil sites, museums and sites of
geologic interest for those who do not want to get too hot or dirty
(Geology 110: June 3-7). This course involves daily fieldtrips from
8:00-5:00 and provides 3 credits.
2. A week long course in the theory and practice of how to dig up
fossils and what to do with them in the laboratory (Geology 101/101L
and 102/102L: June 23-30). Beginning students take Geology 101 and
advanced students take 102. These courses run from Sunday afternoon
to Friday afternoon and involve classroom, field and laboratory work
and result in 3 college credits. An additional credit can be earned
in Geology 101L or 102L which are laboratory courses that run on the
weekend following Geology 101/102. This additional credit cannot be
taken without the three credit class (Geology 101 or 102).
These courses are taught by Dr. Adrian Hunt, a recognized dinosaur
expert and author of many scientific papers and books. Mesa Technical
College is located in Tucumcari in the scenic mesalands country of
eastern New Mexico. Tuition is $150 for Geology 101, 102 and 110 and
$50 for Geology 101L and 102L. For more information contact the
Registrar or Dr. Hunt at (505) 461 4413 (FAX 505 461-1901). Tucumcari
