THE HARRELL L. STRIMPLE AWARD
FOR OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT IN PALEONTOLOGY
BY AMATEURS

Each year the Paleontological Society calls for nominations for its
Strimple Award to recognize outstanding achievement in paleontology by
amateurs. For the purposes of the award, an amateur is someone who does
not make her or his living full-time from paleontology.

The award may be given for a record of outstanding research and
publication, the making of outstanding collections, the safeguarding of
unique paleontological resources through varied public service approaches,
teaching activities that focus on paleontology, collaborative efforts with
others working in paleontology, and similar accomplishments.

Anyone, including other amateurs, may make a nomination. Nominators do not
have to be members of the Paleontolgical Society.

The nomination should include: 1) the full name, address and phone number
(e-mail too if they have it); 2) a certification by the nominator of the
amateur status of the nominee; 3) a brief description of the nominee's
achievements in paleontology not to exceed three pages; 4) any number of
supporting letters and other documentation, which will be bound and
presented to the awardee.

These should be sent by March 1, 1998, to the Chair of the Strimple Award
Committee, Peter R. Crane, The Field Museum, Roosevelt Road at Lake Shore
Drive, Chicago IL 60605-2496. Fax 312-360-9858, e-mail
