Re: Jurassic forest in DC

If you really want to see a Jurassic forest in Washington DC, then go to the
very large National Arboretum up NY Ave. They have one of the few groves of
dawn redwoods in wet soil (their prefered habitat) outside of China. The
trees have taken the form the assume when crowded together, dropping their
lower branches (in contrast isolated trees have a distinctive conical shape).
I used these trees as the basis for the dawn redwoods on the jacket back of
PDW, and the trees in the Parasaurolophus sketch in Dinosaurs Past & Present
VII.
