I can only help with the first part of Mark Shelly's question. Contact the
Collection Manager, Department of Vertebrate Paleontology, at the museum you
want to visit. Unless there are unusual circustances, you ought to be able to
view the desired fossils, especially if it is a public repository. But have
the courtesy to give them advance warning and make an appointment.In the case
of the fossils you wish to view there are probably high quality casts
available that you may feel more comfortable handling. By all means go, those
collections are for folks like you and me too!
