Actually, the noto- element in Giganotosaurus is a Greek root; the
Latin word "notus" or "notos" for "south wind" is a Greek loanword.
The Greek word "notos" meaning south wind or south or southwest quarter
has two omicrons (short "o"'s), whereas the first "o" in the word
"noton" or "notos" meaning "back" is an omega (long "o").
