  In the area you describe, the exposures would probably be Niobrara Formation
(chalk) or possibly the overlying Sharon Springs Member (shale). Back in those
pre-dam days it would most likely be Niobrara. There are enormous tylosaurs
and elasmosaurs found there. They would be likely candidates. Cope collected
