Does anyone have the reference for the original description of _Titanis
waleri_, a North American Neogene (?) "terror bird"? The best I have is a
popular article from a 6/97 Discover article (Terror, Take Two: 6/97, V18,
n6 p68) which suggests that Robert Chandler from the Florida Museum of
Natural History may have first described the specimen. Darned if I can find
the original reference though. The article indicates that the specific name
"walleri" is in recognition of Benjamin Waller, a scuba diver who first
discovered the bones of this animal in the 60's in the Santa Fe River near
Gainsville, Florida. References to the original published description and
any subsequent works on that species would be appreciated. Thanks.
