"Cloning the Woolly Mammoth"

There is an interesting article in the April "Discover" magazine "Cloning
the Woolly Mammoth," by Richard Stone. (The dino list discussed a part
of this idea some months ago, which was fertilizing an elephant egg
with mammoth sperm, if such could be found.) The article describes
the efforts of Japanese scientists to recover mammoth tissue with
intact DNA for use in cloning a "pure woolly mammoth."
