T-Rex chewing?

In the April 1999 issue of National Geographic, there's a small article on
what they beliave is a 17 inch T-Rex coprolite that "held jagged pieces of
bone, indicating that the fearsome predaotr crushed its prey rather then
swallowing it whole." I was wondering why crushing the meal would be
signifacant as opposed to just swallowing it whole like most reptiles?
