It also brought more body weight back towards the hip joint, which allowed 
early ornithischians to be bipedal plant-eaters.  The other great herbivorous 
dinosaur clade, the sauropodomorphs, "opted" instead to go down on all fours 
to support the weight of the enlarged gut.
