On On-line access to journal articles

As Mickey Rowe points out JSTOR is unfortunately unavailable to many of us.
However his example "Philosophical Transactions" is actually freely
available from 1665 to 1929 on Bibliotheque Nationale's Gallica site
(http://gallica.bnf.fr/). This is a *vast* archive (c. 45,000 volumes) and
while heavily biased towards the humanities and french-language sources it
does hold a number of books and periodical of biological or paleontological
interest, e g an (almost) complete run of the Comptes Rendus of the Academie
des Sciences 1832-1929 and Milne-Edwards' "Recherches anatomiques et
paléontologiques pour servir..."
