A skull does not have to have a rostral bone for there to be a rostral
view of it. I usually term this perspective "anterior"

Never heard that rumor. Since I see figures labelled "right
lateral view" as well as "left lateral view", I don't think
it's true. Or if it is true, nobody I've seen uses it.
