<Does anyone have a ref for the infamous "Bumblebees can't fly" paper?>
Sorry if someone already answered this under another thread.
There was no paper. The observation was the result of a back of the napkin
calculation during a hearty dinner. One way to achieve immortality is to
hazard an observation too quickly. (Hasn't worked for me.)
Anyway, there are some good refs in the archives. The one quoted below is
by HP Rowe.
The short version, of course, is that nobody ever really concluded
that "bumblebees can't fly". They merely concluded that they couldn't
explain bumblebee flight by thinking of bees as little airplanes.
