Separation of pulmonary and systemic circuations seems like one of the
better reasons. This would permit more sustained activity, and also larger
sizes. While the former would be more useful for climbing trees, it clearly
doesn't seem to be essential for that task, but I suppose it depends upon
the behaviour being done in those trees.
