So, here it is…

Third Circular
Western Association of Vertebrate Paleontologists
Southwest Paleontological Symposium
February 16-18

Mesa Southwest Museum and the Southwest Paleontological Society, 53 N. Macdonald Street, Mesa, Arizona, are your hosts for the 2001 WAVP meeting.  The symposium will be held at the Rendezvous Center at 263 N. Center Street.  Our new natural history hall is open, which has doubled the size of the museum.  Come see us and make this the best WAVP ever!

The Southwest Paleontological Symposium has been an annual affair at our museum.  In 2000 this symposium attracted about 80 participants and 20 presentations.  For 2001 this symposium will be held jointly with WAVP.  Invertebrate and paleobotanical papers are still welcome, and will be held as separate sessions if enough interest is present.

Title, abstract, or paper?  In keeping with the informal nature of WAVP, we will accept any paper upon providing us with a title, including non-vertebrate talks (or presentations?).  Our Southwest Paleontological Symposium traditionally publishes a museum bulletin with short papers and abstracts of talks.  Several papers have already been submitted, so we intend to continue this tradition.  Abstracts will be available at the symposium, and are included in the price of the symposium.  The symposium volume will be available within a year at a nominal charge.  Deadline and submission guidelines are found below:

Abstracts and Titles: February 2 (electronic submission preferred)
Papers: February 18

Submission Guidelines:
1. Abstracts and titles must be submitted by February 2, 2001.
2. Please indicate with abstract if a manuscript will follow.
3. Abstract submission by electronic means is preferred.
4. Indicate if platform or poster session.
5. Manuscripts are due by February 18, 2001.
6. Manuscript submission should be made with three hardcopies.
7. Short papers and Notes should be in the style of the Journal of Paleontology.  Authors requiring these instructions should contact the symposium coordinator.
8. All professionals and students are requested to provide names, addresses and telephone numbers of at least two qualified reviewers not directly affiliated with the author(s).

Vendor space is available.  For information contact the symposium coordinator.

Mesa, Arizona is a good place to be in February.  If you have questions please contact the symposium coordinator:
