Mantell or Buckland?
A note from Chris McGowan in response to a letter asking for
clarification, reveals the following:
"Here is the resolution to the apparent puzzle. Both Mantell and
underwent post-mortem examinations. Part of Mantell's vertebral
subsequently put on display at the Royal College of Surgeons Hunterian
as recorded in the literature (there is a detailed account of the post

of the collection was saved. I went searching in the rebuilt Hunterian
to see if I could find Mantell's vertebral remains. There was no sign,
enquies led me to conclude it was a casualty of the bombing. But I did
across a preserved specimen on public display containing the base of
skull, and the first few cervical vertebrae."
