Bird mortality: North vs. South

Interesting finding: Ghalambor, CK, and TE Martin 2001 Fecundity and
survival trade-offs and parental risk-taking in birds. Science vol 292
pp494-497

Birds in the northern hemisphere generally live shorter lives than
southern birds. They also have larger clutches and are more willing to
defend their brood. Why the latitudinal differences? The paper doesn't
address this.
