No. He has observed the fact that marsupials were replaced by placentals
in one part of the world 65 mya. At least two hypotheses are possible for
this: competition/predation; or luck. There is just no way to distinguish
between these two. All arguments about relative fitness of marsupials
vs. placentals are essentially meaningless since the creatures around then
may have borne little or no resemblance to those alive today.
