Greek _herpetos_, from the Greek, "creeper" (or "crawler") - a reference to
reptilian affinities (as for Reptile: from Latin _reptilis_, from _repere_,
_reptum_, "to creep").

Greek _gyrinos_, from the Greek, "tadpole" - a reference to amphibian
affinities.
