Great Backyard Bird Count

The fifth annual Great Backyard Bird Count (GBBC) will take place February 
15-18, 2002.  See the website at:  http://birdsource.cornell.edu/gbbc/

The count is a joint project Aububon and Cornell Lab of Ornithology, and is 
sponsored by Wild Birds Unlimited.  

This is a chance for everyone to do science in their backyards, and contribute 
important information on bird populations.  The data will be combined with that 
from the Christmas Bird Count and Project Feeder/Watch, in which many of us 

A particular area of observation and study this year is mycoplasmal 
conjunctivitis in House Finches, whose population in the eastern U.S. has 
dropped 60% since 1993 (a loss of approximately 180 million birds).
