       The article says, "Over the past 150 years, paleontologists have 
accepted the demise of the ichthyosaur was linked to the extinction of its 
main food source - squid-like carnivores called belemnites."
       Belemnites survived the ichthyosaurs by millions of years. They are 
quite common in certain portions of the Pierre Shale long after ichthyosaurs 
disappear.   DV
