April National Geographic and the KT

There is an article about the rise of mammals and what not in April's Nat Geo.
But, I have a KT extinction question...

The one page article right before the mammals is one entitled "Who Knew?" It's
about the disagreements among different KT extinction theories and theorists.
In it, David Fastovsky, a geobiologist at the University of Rhode Island, says
that new research at the Hell Creek Formation in North Dakota shows that a
great number of species died out suddenly at the end of the Cretaceous. What
study is this???

Oh, and after you read the article, I'm curious to know what people think about
the rest of it.

Thanks.
