Not dinosaurs, but very neat article from Astrobiology that I thought might
be appropriate given some of the discussion concerning the place of
photographs/image-files contra actual specimens that has been going on here
recently. The article is here:
It concerns devising a test to distnguish stromatolites from non-organic
stromatolite-like structures. The test devised by the scientists mentioned
in the article works as follows: "create a digital image of the rock; then
compress the image file. The more the file shrinks, the more likely it is
that life was responsible for building the layers."
