You mean of course ARACHNIDS. Spiders aren't insects. Arthropod would
have done though (since it's much nore inclusive).

There was a time when the biggest spider was thought to have been as
large as a dog - until it was found that the fossil was actually of a
crustacean.

Insect is to arachnidan what crustacean is to eurypterid. *Megarachne* is a eurypterid... some think this means it was a genuine stem-group scorpion, but in any case it was close to spiders, scorpions and the like.
