How about a tail with an easily removed end, similar
to that of some modern lizards?  Such a feature might
be discernible in the vertebrae.

That brings up an image of a predator adapted specifically to feast on the dropped tail-meat of sauropods. There's a lot of good eatin' in those things! Why bother to hunt the entire beast when you can just pull/scare off a meal with much less effort. ;-)

...of course, it also brings to mind the image of a lot of deeply unbalanced sauropods plowing head-first into the ground. ;-)
