The apparent ability to see in the UV spectrum is
interesting... Any thoughts as to what advantage this
might serve?

Having a visual response in the UV spectrum would be useful anytime an animal is searching for (or avoiding) items that have high UV reflectance. Many flowers have strong UV signals, so nectar feeders, or folivores that can use flowers for plant recognition, might benefit. Some insects also reflect a fair bit in UV, if I recall correctly, so that may provide a prey recognition ability.


Anyone else have thoughts on items that show up well in UV?
