"Palaeontologists have fired a broadside over a fossil
which is the cornerstone evidence to back the theory
that birds descended from dinosaurs."

WAS A. Not "is the". What is this, 1997? We have
internet these days, AFP. It's on frickin' Wikipedia
for Her Invisible Pinkness' sake (though not under _S.
prima_; somebody please point that article to
Feathered_dinosaurs#Primitive_feather_types)!

Besides, the stuff on _S. prima_ the new paper refers
are not "feathers" in any case. They were cutaneous
collagen fibres that, as far as anyone can tell, are
*homologous* to feathers at a very deep developmental
genetics level, duh...

In fact, it would be a more serious problem if _S.
prima_ *had* pennaceous feathers, being as old as it
is and as distant from Archie. Except for one Mr.
Olshevsky, who'd scream with joy.
