Growing Emu Limbs Take the Strain

I'm wondering if theropods (particularly tyrannosaurs)
utilized mechanisms similar to growing emu to deal
with increasing bone strain with age and size.  If
they did, would this have allowed them to use a
running gait, even at multi-tonne size?
