re: what IS a dino?



Well, the paleo's on here will give you the best scoop,
but some things you might want to stress on your chart
so that the teens will get a couple of points right is:

1) all dinosaurs were land-animals - therefore, the ancient marine reptiles and
    the flying reptiles are not dinos

2) dinos are, of course, reptiles - that's a fast answer to a mammal like the saber-toothed cats

3) dino's are "easily" distinguished by their gait / hip-structure - unlike other archosaurs,
their legs are underneath their bodies, not sprawled out to the side like a crocodile
or a UNC graduate (go Blue Devils !!! )
