Here's the full text on the etymology of the generic name (to give due credit 
to the authors on its derivation):

Etymology - "monstrous heavy one" derived from the Greek peloros "monstrous, 
gigantic; and hoplites, meaning heavily armed; and as a subjunctive, a heavily 
armed soldier.

(I'm not taking the rap for the missing quotation mark, though!)
