Re: Protoavis fossil images



Not trying to say Protoavis is a true bird or just one specimen, but...
Why no one ever published a paper with an alternative and well founded
interpretation of all these remains?

Nesbitt et al. (2007) and Hutchinson (2001) justifiedly indicate the
femur and astragalus resemble those of non-averostran theropods,
Witmer (2001) indicates that the braincase is coelurosaurian because
of a set of apomorphies including overall the large size of the
flocculus and development of cranial pneumatization.
There are some other opinions, but otherwise no well-illustrated and
illustrated reinterpretation has been published to my knowledge.
