$570K given to U Wyoming Geo Museum

doesn't anything about rehiring fired staff

Half a million ways to help the museum
Gift establishes museum endowment

A $570,000 gift to the University of Wyoming by Brainerd Nip and Anne Mears that will be matched dollar-for-dollar by the state of Wyoming will go to create a $1.14 million endowment fund that will help secure the museums national profile in geological education for the future.
A task force led by Geology Professor Art Snoke has been tasked by UW President Tom Buchanan to determine a long-range plan for a redesigned museum that augments the universitys academic mission and further enhance the reputation of the Department of Geology and Geophysics.

University of Wyoming Communications Director Jessica Lowell said that the current plan to have the museum open part-time and staffed by a part-time security guard will continue for now but that the task force will be reviewing museum operations and coming up with a long-term plan by semesters end.

Theres a lot of experience coming into this committee and their guidance is do a sustainable plan, Lowell added.

Members of the planning team include the director of one of UWs other museums or major collections; the dean of Arts and Sciences or a designee; the director of the Science-Mathematics Teaching Center; the director of the School of Energy Resources or a designee; the head of the Department of Geology and Geophysics; and at least one faculty member or academic professional from geology and geophysics.
