I suspect they'd also make a go of reducing the livestock and human populations 
as well. That 
might not make them too popular.

However there are plenty of off-shore islands in Australia that are teaming 
with feral goats or pigs. 
Recently a pet dog was washed off a yacht in Queensland, and managed to survive 
for months on 
an island by hunting young goats. If a domestic dog can do that, then a 
wild-born Komodo monitor 
should feel right at home.
