Closing PA State Museum?

The following statement about the Pennsylvania State Museum was buried in a news story about a new mammoth mount.

"The State Museum is mounting the mammoth exhibit with ever more minuscule funding. It is one of 25 sites operated by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, and budget and staffing cuts this year forced it to reduce hours and charge admission for the first time.

The museum's future remains in question. Shortly before Christmas, Gov. Rendell said he might have to close it - and lay off 1,000 government workers - if the General Assembly fails to approve table-games legislation to provide funding by Friday.

For now, museum workers are keeping their focus on the positive: the Jan. 24 scheduled exhibit opening."
