It is hard to construct even a semi-convincing large terrestrial vertebrate scavenger w/out incorporating a keen sense of smell, good eyes, an economical gait, and stomach acids capable of dissolving bone rapidly.

Throw in the ability to swallow large objects like herbivore femurs whole, and it becomes interesting.

Call it the "Sword-swallower Speculation", and use it to annoy T. rex lovers everywhere...
