Hi all - On the issue of Nile crocodiles and Egyptian plovers: There is an
excellent account on Commensal Birds that includes a review and references
documenting birds and crocodiles and birds feeding on leeches in the mouth
mucosa of Nile crocodiles and a reference to similar behavior in saltwater
crocodiles and birds.

The reference is:

Hugh B. Cott. 1961. Scientific results of an inquiry into the ecology and
economic status of the Nile crocodile (Crocodilus niloticus) in Uganda and
Northern Rhodesia. Transactions of the Zoological Society of London. Volume
29, Part 4. April 1961: pp 211-355. The Commensal Bird text appears on pp
313-316 inclusive.

I'll be happy to scan and post the pages if anyone is interested.
