I admired the counter-attack.

Speculation -- "varmint" is a concept that translates easily into Loxodontan.

That said, just imagine how the event would have ended if the elephant's brain, eyes, nostrils, spinal cord and associated blood vessels were contained in a small package at the end of the trunk, sauropod-style.

That 1st reflexive pull-back would likely signal the end of "organized resistance"...
