Huge stretchs of the North American east were carbonate banks in the Cambrian
and Ordovician, and again in the Silurian and
Devonian. The North American Midwest and West has great gobs of Proterozoic
and Paleozoic limestone.
So no carbonate shortage in the Cretaceous.
