Re: [dinosaur] Ornithomimid tooth in the Chicxulub tsunamite

Come on, man, you don't even have to ask the list: you know more than this!

It is impossible to have found an Ornithomimus (or ornithomimid) tooth, as they DIDN'T HAVE ANY! So Smit clearly has misidentified it.

However, misidentification aside, a google.scholar.com search on "mexico tektite maastrichtian mosasaur tooth" finds:

SCHULTE, P., SMIT, J., DEUTSCH, A., SALGE, T., FRIESE, A. and BEICHEL, K. (2012), Tsunami backwash deposits with Chicxulub impact ejecta and dinosaur remains from the CretaceousâPalaeogene boundary in the La Popa Basin, Mexico. Sedimentology, 59: 737â765. doi:10.1111/j.1365-3091.2011.01274.x
http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/j.1365-3091.2011.01274.x/full

This describes the site. The photos of concern are Fig. 9. In the paper the ID these no more than "vertebrate tooth."

Good day,

in this lecture https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bdOledzfaXk (time 31:35) Jan Smit states, that the tooth of some ornithomimosaur together with a mosasaur vertebra was found in the tsunamite layer, dating precisely to the K-Pg event. Was this find already published and/or is anything else known about it? This could be evidence of non-avian dinosaurs living at the K-Pg boundary and witnessing the horrific event itself. Thank you in advance, Tom
